Ludacris, LMFAO & Corey Smith – October 16, 2010

LMFAO saturated the stage, photo pit, and crowd with champagne and Coronas. Above is a dripping speaker just before Ludacris, the closing act, came on.

UCF’s annual Homecoming concert rolled through last weekend and, as usual, it was amazing. There was not a single open space on the standing-room-only floor. LMFAO’s performance utterly blew me away with their energy and choreographed moves, and their use of live instruments to back up their vocals certainly didn’t hurt, either.

The Flaming Lips – Work by Nick Masuda

Since I’m not allowed to post photos from the Stone Temple Pilots show on October 9 (legal agreements are exactly that), I thought I’d share some recent work by Nick Masuda over at the Orlando Sentinel. Masuda was my Page Design professor in the journalism department during fall 2008. Since I graduated, we occasionally run into each other at shows and shoot side-by-side.

Check out his gallery of The Flaming Lips @ House of Blues, and marvel at Wayne Coyne’s genius!

Miracle Miles 15K – September 25, 2010

Earlier this week, my sister invited me to come see her and her husband participate in the Miracle Miles 15K near downtown Orlando. In its 12th year, Miracle Miles dedicated all proceeds to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Winnie Palmer Hospital for Women & Babies. Having never attended a race before, I said yes!

I am extremely proud of Shannon and Chase for their dedication to running, for all those times they’ve had to wake up at 4 a.m. to train, and for each of those runner’s toes (yeeeech) they’ve endured, and for saving tiny babies (as opposed to gargantuan babies)! Great job, guys!

Paramore, September 5, 2010

Fall usually marks the onset of touring season, and the crowd at the arena Sunday night gave irrefutable proof. This was quite possibly the most widely attended show I’ve shot since DJ Tiesto last year.

Kadawatha opened, and I believe Daniel said it was their first (U.S.?) tour. If so, their stage presence was pretty impressive for newcomers! I was pretty surprised to see New Found Glory on the roster; The band was popular when I was in middle school! Tegan and Sara’s set –or at least the first three songs of it– completely blew me away. I only knew a single song of theirs, “Walking With a Ghost”, which was later covered by The White Stripes, but their performance convinced me they they should have headlined the tour. Paramore can be easily summarized: Nouvelle No Doubt with a really, reaaaaally energetic leading lady. I’m not sure Hayley stood still for more than a few brief moments. It sucks for me as a photographer, but she knows how to cover the stage and work the crowd! 😛

Here we go, in reverse chronological order:
